PREPARING FOR A CAREER FAIR

Career fairs are a great way to connect with students who are looking for internships and employment. Students strive to make a good first impression, but so should employers. The following tips will help you prepare for a successful day.

  • Bring more than one person.

Career fairs and Internship Fairs typically last several hours. Assign one person to stay at the table to answer questions and maintain supplied while the other person speaks with other employers. Internship and career fairs are a great way to connect with other companies and campus staff.

  • Provide available internship or job descriptions

Students are there looking for opportunities. Provide copies of your most up-to-date internship and job opportunities for students to take with them.

  • Bring a sign or banner

Some companies have elaborate signs where others provide small tabletop signs. An alternative is using your tablecover as your sign. You can place your company logo on the front of your table cover. This alternative makes set up quick and easy!

  • Bring a folder

Extra folders will help you to stay organized. You can collect resumes and cover letters throughout the day.

  • Bring a clipboard and sign up sheet

Allow students to provide their name, email, major and graduation date. You can use this reference list when new opportunities are available.

  • Prepare Interview questions

Be prepared to conduct an onsite interview. Onsite interviews can consist of two or three initial questions. Don’t pass up an opportunity to speak to potential candidates.

  • Provide items with the company logo

Students will always pick up pens, highlighters, frisbees, tshirts, etc. One of the best items to provide is a carry bag for the student. Normally students are trying to balance their resumes with all of the items from the company tables. A carry bag is a great item because it can be used before and after the fair.

  • Do not forget to connect with other employers at the event.

Walk around and meet some of the other vendors. This is a great opportunity to network and make connections.
